Abstract
A method of producing bio-diesel comprises the steps of extracting crude oil from kernels of Jatropha curcas using an organic solvent; reacting the extracted crude oil with a first alcohol in the presence of an acidic catalyst to produce a reacted oil; transesterifying the reacted oil with a second alcohol in the presence of an basic catalyst to form fatty acid alkyl ester and glycerine; separating the glycerine from the fatty acid alkyl ester; and purifying the fatty acid alkyl ester using acidified water ro acquire the bio-diesel.
