Abstract

Quantitative data was obtained for plants growing on the margin of a shallow mining pool located in Serdang, Malaysia. The reproductive capacity was high because of the large number of seeds produced by a single plant and a short life cycle allowing for 3 or more generations within a year. Plants which produced a large number of seeds (1026-3060) had a germination rate of 3 1/2-7 1/2%. Those which produced a much smaller number of seeds (54-200) had a germination rate of 6 1/2-45% but had several plant generations in a single year.
