Abstract
This chapter emphasized on the second-generation of liquid biomass for production of renewable diesel. In general, second-generation liquid biomass also known as second-generation biofuel or advanced biofuel where it is referred to a fuel that produced from non-food biomass sources such as agricultural, forestry residues and organic municipal waste. The second-generation liquid biomass feedstocks can be divided into two categories: primary and secondary biomass, which have been discussed in depth in this chapter. Second-generation biofuel methods are designed to increase the quantity of biofuel that can be generated sustainably. There are various technologies that can be used to produce renewable biofuels. Gasification, pyrolysis, torrefaction, and hydrothermal liquefaction are some of the most common thermochemical processes. While biochemical techniques provided enzymatic conversion of complex sugar polymers found in biomass to produce biofuel. This chapter also reviewed the current research and situation on the conversion of second-generation liquid biomass into renewable diesel.
