Abstract
Over the past century, higher education worldwide has undergone numerous transformations in teaching, research, administration, and social services. However, the traditional university classroom has remained largely unchanged. The emergence of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) signals an unprecedented and profound shift in the structure of university education shaped by the industrial era. In the era of big data, the rapid proliferation of MOOCs poses significant challenges to traditional higher education. How can conventional universities maintain their relevance and secure a competitive position? This paper first introduces the concept of MOOCs, then analyzes their impact on higher education in China, and finally proposes strategies to address the emerging challenges.
