Abstract

Rising environmental issues have heightened global awareness of climate change and the need for mitigation. In response, governments worldwide have started adopting various climate policies to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable growth. This study investigates the impact of climate policy stringency on corporate environmental innovation. It uses panel data from a sample of 1,383 Asian firms from 2019 to 2023, totaling 6,913 firm-year observations. The study is grounded on institutional theory and Porter’s hypothesis. Data used was collected from CAPMF and LSEG workspace databases. The result shows that overall climate policy and market-based policy stringency have a significant and positive impact on corporate environmental innovation. This study offers several policy implications for policymakers and other stakeholders.
