Abstract

Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy that comprised of a multi–ethnics and multi–religious country with a population of 23 million. In precise, 59 percent of the populations are Malays and Bumiputera (son of the earth), 31 percent are Chinese, and the other 10 percent are Indians plus others (Mehra, 2001). With the pluralistic make-up of Malaysian society, any attempt to analyze the role her media must first comprehend the historical and cultural background of Malaysia. These fragility of the region in which Malaysia is located and the complex multiracial society that Malaysia inherited from its former colonizer, the British, had made Malaysian media roles an interesting factor to analyze. The roots of ethnocentrism in Malaysian media contents, organization, and interests can be traced to the heyday of the colonial rule (Hassan & Rahman, 2000). Findings concluded on Malaysian entertainment journalists agreed that IEs are vital for the future of Malaysian entertainment journalism. However, the ability to speak in English does not necessarily mean that the entertainment journalists of English News Agencies have all the knowledge about ICT. The fact that the ICT revolution began in the English spoken countries and disseminated through English medium, that does not mean the English spoken journalists were automatically equipped with the knowledge and comprehension of ICT. This perception must be removed entirely.
