Abstract

This thesis develops a Contemporary Silk Scarf Design Framework (CSSDF) that integrates Dunhuang mural elements with cognitive ergonomics (CE) to enhance the innovation and market appeal of cultural creative products for young Chinese women. Dunhuang murals, as a significant representation of traditional Chinese heritage, hold immense artistic and historical value. However, their application in contemporary silk scarf design lacks originality and market competitiveness, necessitating further research and refinement. To address this gap, this study employs a mixed-methods approach, including expert interviews, literature review, and user surveys, to comprehensively investigate the role of Dunhuang mural elements in modern silk scarf design. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS, focusing on descriptive statistics and correlation analysis to evaluate the significance of mural elements from a cognitive ergonomics perspective. The findings indicate that among the primary mural elements, patterns, lines, and colors, color plays the most influential role in evoking emotional responses, particularly joy, healing, and relaxation. Additionally, decorative patterns are the most preferred, and blue is the dominant color choice among users. The proposed CSSDF framework outlines a systematic process for selecting and integrating Dunhuang mural elements, considering user preferences, emotional engagement, and design ergonomics to enhance both aesthetic appeal and usability. The framework serves as a practical guideline for designers, ensuring the harmonization of tradition and modernity in silk scarf products. This study contributes to the field of cultural and creative industries, textile design, and cognitive ergonomics, offering new strategies for the preservation and innovation of Chinese cultural heritage in contemporary fashion. Future research should focus on cross-cultural comparisons, interdisciplinary collaborations, and digital marketing strategies to further optimize the application of Dunhuang mural elements in global markets.
