Abstract
Financial literacy is a critical skill for young people, especially university students who are beginning to take on financial responsibility. This study examines the relationship between financial management skills and the impact of peer influence on spending behavior among college students at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia. To understand these relationships, survey tool was employed to gather data from 215 students. We observed a significant correlation between peer influence and students' spending behavior. Financial literacy was also found to have an impact on encouraging wise spending behavior. The study found that students with greater financial knowledge are better in controlling their impulsive spending when influenced by peers. The finding is consistent with past literature that financial knowledge is important to improve students' financial decision-making.
