Abstract

Advancing methods and techniques that minimize or eliminate harmful environmental effects stands as a cornerstone of sustainable chemistry. In recent years, deep eutectic solvents (DES) have emerged as notable alternatives to conventional organic solvents. Ionic liquids initially attracted a lot of interest, but DES has now supplanted them due to their ease of use cheaper pricing, simpler preparatory procedures, as well as the majority of them being functional with biological systems. They also exhibit adaptive physicochemical characteristics, high thermal stability, low volatility, and water compatibility with each other. The current state of DES utilization is examined in this paper, with a focus on the function of the reaction medium in organic chemical synthesis.
