Abstract

Users are increasingly expressing a demand to differentiate the design of a product and the involvement of users is essential as a key business strategy for many companies. Understanding and recognizing the user experience and knowledge are necessary in new product development process, however, many product developers and designers are having difficulties determining which variable factors derive from user and experience knowledge that has a significant impact for product marketability and success. The research aims to develop a new framework that integrates the variables of user experience and their knowledge in the new product development process towards marketability and success. Experience and knowledge variables in this research are obtained from design experts and experience users. A survey conducted involving a total of 30 design experts and 211 experienced users to identify the significance of the user experience and their knowledge for the establishment of new product characteristics in the early stage of product development process. This survey also aims to determine the important variables of user experience and their knowledge for the establishment of new product characteristics that contribute to product marketability and success. The result acknowledges 42 important design variables that contribute towards product marketability and success. A new user experience knowledge framework (UEKF) was developed as a design guideline for product developers and designers to be used in new product development processes. The validation was conducted to prove its contribution towards product marketability and success.
