Abstract
This paper has three objective. First, to profile the socioeconomic backgrounds of
the respondents who had experience on household income declined due to climate
change (CCE) (RO1); to measure the relationship between poverty eradication strategy (PES)
and sex of respondents by CCE (RO2); and to identify the significant PES by sex of
respondents (RO3). There are four (4) types of CCE and 13 types of PES results 420 null
hypothesis (under Ho1-Ho4 category respectively) to be tested under Chi Square test and
Custom Table for RO2; and only 3-Hos had been rejected. Thus 3-PES had significant (p<0.05)
relationship with sex only among ‘YES moderately’ CCE of respondents: S2, S8 and S11; and
in all of these PES respectively, more female than male respondents use it to eradicate poverty
of their households. Two Hos were tested using Binary Logistic Regression (BLR) Models to
achieve RO3 - Ho5 (male) and Ho6 (female); and both models are significant. Only S8
(using water and energy-saving systems) is a significant (p<0.05) predictor (for male or female
respondents) in both models respectively. Thus Ho5 was rejected because the findings indicate
that male respondents in this paper are not using water and energy-savings system as one of
the PES for their households (odds=4.968). The Ho6 was also rejected because the findings
indicate that female respondents in this paper are using water and energy-savings system as
one of the PES for their households because odds=0.201 shows less 79.90 likelihood
that female respondents not using S8. The findings highlight on traditional gender roles where
utilities management of the households is part of women role, and therefore “water and energysavings system” is part of PES by women than men for their households.
