Age-friendly recreational landscapes in residential green spaces: a systematic literature review

As the “green living rooms” of communities, residential green spaces (RGSs) are vital in shaping inclusive and health-oriented urban leisure environments. This study adheres to the PRISMA systematic review framework and employs quantitative and qualitative research methods to systematically synthesize and analyze relevant academic findings. Since 2019, research interest has grown, with China and the United States leading in publication volume. International studies focus primarily on psychology and public health, while Chinese literature emphasizes landscape architecture. Quantitative methods dominate, with surveys (67%) and interviews (21%) being the most common. Key factors include recreational intention and perceived landscape quality. Theoretically, international work emphasizes health promotion and ecology, whereas Chinese studies stress environmental impacts on well-being. This review highlights research hotspots and theoretical distinctions in age-friendly RGSs studies, outlines development directions for China, and calls for greater cross-cultural and longitudinal research.
