Abstract

This study explores the landscape of eco-innovation in Indonesia, focusing on how product makers integrate waste materials and eco-friendly practices into green manufacturing. The aim is to analyse Indonesia’s growth in eco-innovation research and its practical applications while suggesting how these best practices can inform sustainable product development in Malaysia’s Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). To this end, five companies were selected based on their successful integration of waste materials into production, generation of economic opportunities, and development of innovative, sustainable products. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with key personnel, including Executive Directors, Product Designers, and Production Workers, alongside on-site observations. The study provides insights into optimizing business models to reduce operational costs while promoting eco-friendly outcomes. It highlights the potential of wasteto- resource strategies in fostering a circular economy, positioning Indonesia as a model for sustainable practices in developing countries.
