Abstract

Migraine is a chronic neurological disease characterized by severe headaches and unpleasant debilitating symptoms. Migraine causes many comorbidities such as sexual dysfunction (SD) disorders and intercourse challenges. This study was designed to determine the global prevalence of SD in migraine patients (MPs). Following the main keywords and searching strategy designation, various databases of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar search engine were searched (by August 2024). All studies reporting SD prevalence among migraine patients were collected and evaluated. Data analysis was applied by Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software (CMA v.2) and the Random Effect Model was used for analysis. The I2 index was hired to assess the heterogeneity and p < 0.05 was considered a significant level. 15 studies (16 data) with a sample size of 1325 migraine patients cases were used for meta-analysis. The overall SD prevalence among migraine patients was 64.6% (95%CI: 50.5–76.6). Regarding the gender-based classification, this value was calculated at 67.7% (95%CI: 51.6–80.5) and 53.9% (95%CI: 26.8–78.9) for men and women, respectively. According to the meta-regression findings, following the increase in sample size and year of study, the global SD prevalence accelerates (p < 0.05) in migraine patients. According to the high prevalence of SD among migraine patients and based on the associated unpleasant side-effects, the findings of the present investigation seem a useful value for health policy makers.
